Thu is thrilled to announce that she will be performing at the beautiful Plymouth United Church of Christ, Oakland's very own Jazz and Justice Church, on Monday, June 22nd at 7pm as part of their beloved Monday Night Jazz series. This one is extra special, because she'll be joining two extraordinary musicians for what promises to be a truly one-of-a-kind evening: two-time Grammy-winning violinist Mads Tolling and beloved pianist John R Burr. Mads and John typically perform together as a duo, so they are vivaciously exploring new colors and textures as a vocal/violin/piano trio. This is exactly the kind of artistic adventure that keeps Thu skipping.

Mads Tolling is an internationally renowned violinist and composer! He won Grammy Awards for Best Classical Crossover Album as part of the Turtle Island Quartet's recordings 4+Four and A Love Supreme: The Legacy of John Coltrane. Whether bending jazz standards, writing violin concertos for major orchestras, or collaborating with legends like Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke, Mads brings a rare combination of technical mastery and soulful spontaneity to everything he plays.

John R Burr is that rare pianist who combines jazz technique with a genuine love for folk music, drawing inspiration as readily from James Taylor and Doctor John as from Oscar Peterson. After years of touring and recording with artists including Maria Muldaur, the Alison Brown Quartet, Paul McCandless, and Michael Manring, John has built a reputation as one of the Bay Area's most lyrical and versatile pianists.

Plymouth United Church of Christ has long woven jazz into the very soul of its community, with some of the Bay Area's most celebrated jazz and blues musicians as part of its congregation. Their Monday Night Jazz series has created an intimate and joyful space where the music feels as much like a spiritual experience as a concert. The evening transitions into an open mic jam afterwards, so bring your instrument and your voice!
